Commission hears Duel Threat tournament plans; board member resigns amid community complaints; TN250 grant discussed

Organizers reported the Duel Threat Fishing Tournament is scheduled May 25–30, with practice days on May 26–27 and the tournament taking place May 28–30; organizers estimate about 150 boats and are not requesting city funds at this time.
The minutes also state that numerous community members asked that commissioner Kristin Urani be removed from the board because of communication issues; the minutes record that, under the bylaws, she could resign or be voted off, and that Kristin Urani resigned from the board. The minutes do not quote individual complainants or record a vote related to the resignation.
Lee Booker raised participation in the statewide TN250 program (the minutes note $3.5 million available statewide) to support a local 250th-anniversary celebration; the commission discussed alternatives (a 5K or park festival) if the grant application is not successful and planned a meeting with Pyro Shows in September to discuss options. The commission’s next regular meeting is Sept. 23, 2025.
