Hallock council awards $93,453 paving contract, addresses dumpsite cameras and dilapidated house

The Hallock City Council voted July 7 to accept a Knife River quote of $93,453 for mill-and-overlay work on listed streets and addressed related public‑works and code‑enforcement issues.
Utility Superintendent Dan Larson presented two bids for mill-and-overlay work — Reit Rock Paving at $98,086.38 and Knife River at $93,453. Councilor Kevin Waller moved to accept Knife River’s quote; Councilor Jen Peterson seconded the motion, which carried.
Larson also reported a verbal $7,500 quote from Weleske Implement to push up the tree dump site; crushed concrete is available to build the road. Chief of Police Mike Docken said cameras have been installed at the tree site and requested a new readable dumpsite sign.
Docken reviewed efforts on dilapidated houses and said he would consult the city attorney to send letters to owners to appear before council for possible condemnation. "We need to focus on getting that house out of there. It is a public health hazard," Councilor Kevin Waller said.
In related equipment business, Council approved a Stones Radio quote to replace batteries for the fire department at $3,364.10 (motion by Councilor Naomi Larson, second by Councilor Totleben).
What’s next: city staff will coordinate paving project logistics with Knife River and follow up with the city attorney on condemnation steps for the dilapidated property.
