Rothschild board clears street discontinuances, 2025 fees, recreation plan work and salary changes; police give quarterly update

The Village of Rothschild Village Board approved a slate of operational and administrative items at its Dec. 9 meeting, including two public‑way discontinuances, the 2025 fee schedule, recreation planning work, a trail‑grooming agreement and a salary resolution. The board also heard a quarterly update from the Mountain Bay Metropolitan Police Department.
Right‑of‑way discontinuances: Public Works Administrator Timothy Vergara explained the 2011 Pflieger Street reconstruction reconfigured the Becker/Peggy/Schmidt intersection and left unused right‑of‑way. The board approved discontinuing portions of Becker Street (Outlot 2 and Outlot 3) and a portion of Peggy Lane, citing reduced maintenance needs and after resuming the lis pendens process with affected landowners. Motions carried 7–0.
2025 fee schedule: Administrator Ryan VanDeWalle said staff across departments revised the annual fee schedule; Zoning Coordinator Rebekka Borchardt asked that floodplain development fees be added under residential remodels, additions and alterations. The board approved the 2025 fee schedule as submitted.
Cedar Creek Recreation Area and supporting items: The Outdoor Recreation Committee recommended moving forward with Ayres Associates (over bids from MSA and Cedar Corporation) to update the Pavilion Marketplace Plan, the Cedar Creek Recreation Area Plan and the Comprehensive Outdoor Recreational Plan for 2026–2030. The board approved selecting Ayres and including the CORP. The board also approved an internally created Cedar Creek Recreation logo presented by Tourism Marketing Director Dave Brula and approved a 2025 agreement continuing trail grooming by the Central Wisconsin Off‑Road Cycling Coalition (CWOCC).
Police department update: Chief Jeremy Hunt reported that surplus vehicles, firearms and abandoned evidence items have been sold; three new officers were hired and several position changes were made; and multiple policies and procedures are being rewritten. No board action was required on the report.
Salary resolution and compensation: VanDeWalle said the largest change in Salary Resolution 2024‑17 affects the municipal judge because of a new court and police department. The board approved the resolution, and also set pay for Aquatic Center, Tourism and Planning & Zoning commission members at $25 per meeting and approved citizen compensation at $350 per year plus $25 per meeting. The meeting adjourned at 7:23 p.m.
