Lancaster County commissioners approve routine claims, contracts and engineering agreements

At its Jan. 6 meeting the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved minutes, payroll and vendor claims, multiple contract amendments and engineering supplements for transportation projects, and a contract to secure transitional housing for Adult Drug Court participants.
The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners met Jan. 6 and on unanimous 4-0 votes approved routine minutes, payroll and vendor claims, a set of contract amendments, several right-of-way payments and multiple professional services supplements to advance county road projects.
The board approved payroll claims ending Dec. 24, 2025, and vendor claims processed through Jan. 2, 2026. Commissioners also approved four claims that exceeded the 90-day payment window under Neb. Rev. Stat. §23-135, including payments totaling $92,427.43 to Matthew Huss ($1,940), MIT Contracting ($48,800.40), Platte Valley Equipment ($26,208), and Southeast Nebraska Development District ($15,479.03).
On a consent vote the board authorized amendments to county contracts, including an extension of Rochester Armored Car contract through June 30, 2026; a price adjustment for Uribe Refuse Services Inc.; renewal of annual fuel supply contracts with Sapp Bros Inc. and Whitehead Oil Company (combined not to exceed $1,450,000); an extension of a mobile license plate reader contract with Vigilant Solutions LLC (not to exceed $55,000); flooring contracts renewal (not to exceed $25,000); and an extension of a BMX exhibit grant with the Museum of American Speed. The board also approved right-of-way payments to private landowners (amounts $475–$1,845) and a Windstream utility permit for cable replacement along 82nd Street (no county cost).
The board adopted Resolution R-26-0001 fixing salaries for elected officers' chief deputies for 2026, and R-26-0005 addressing witness fees that have remained unclaimed for six months or more; both resolutions passed 4-0. The board set a part-time temporary Attorney II rate for Michael Mefferd at $55 per hour, effective Jan. 6, 2026.
The board approved a one-year contract with Midwest Petroleum Equipment to replace fuel dispensers at the Cherry Creek location (not to exceed $23,592.71) and approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Mentoring Plus to provide no-cost programming for Youth Services Center residents. Commissioners also approved a continuation contract with Fresh Start Inc to secure transitional housing for up to four female Adult Drug Court participants at 6433 Havelock, at $50 per bed per day and not to exceed $72,000 per year; Community Corrections Director Jeff Kilpatrick said the contract continues an existing arrangement and raises the per-bed rate from $25 to $50.
All motions during the meeting carried on recorded 4-0 votes with Commissioner Christa Yoakum absent. The board adjourned at 9:13 a.m.
