Rothschild board to survey residents on expanded street lighting; seeks cost-share with Weston

Village public-works staff outlined lighting options and budget implications for several Rothschild streets on Jan. 27, 2025. The board authorized the administrator to approach the Village of Weston about a 50/50 cost-share for lighting on Weston Avenue and to return with a final proposal.
Staff described Stonefield Avenue requests for additional lighting (currently decorative acorn poles spaced about 850 feet apart) and proposed new pole spacing of roughly 425 feet. Vergara said Lemke and Richey streets have gaps in lighting because there are no intersecting streets, with existing WPS lights about +/-950 feet apart; proposed spacing would be about 475 feet. Urban Street similarly has a long gap between lights and could be reduced to roughly 500-foot spacing.
Vergara estimated the village paid about $242.83 per ROW light in 2024 with a total 2025 lighting budget of about $115,000; adding all proposed new lights would raise costs by approximately $1,500 annually. Trustees authorized staff to survey residents in affected areas and come back with pricing for lighting that matches existing fixtures. The motion carried 6-0.
