Commission reviews county postcard, historic marking and $15,000 TN Downtowns Program grant options

Alex Fine of the Rhea County Department of Tourism is creating a county postcard of events; the commission must submit event dates by Oct. 1 to be included. Separately, the Daughters of the American Revolution plan to mark the grave of Private John Thompson as part of America 250 on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at 2365 Cawood Rd in Spring City. The America 250 program is holding its first meeting at the Rhea County Courthouse on Sept. 29 at 1:00 p.m.
Thomas McCormick presented options for spending a received $15,000 TN Downtowns Program grant. Proposed uses included eight trash cans, two benches, two picnic tables and 14 lamp‑post banners for downtown lamp posts. Candi Harris requested that business façade improvements be considered during this round of grants. McCormick said he would ask Bridgett to attend the next commission meeting to explain requirements and help the commission evaluate options.
No formal action to allocate the $15,000 was recorded in the minutes; the item was presented as a grant award with options for commission consideration.
