Grant County schedules Sept. 8 public hearing for Long Branch drainage; board proposes assessment rates

The Grant County Drainage Board voted to set a public hearing on Sept. 8 to consider assessment rates and a plan for the Long Branch drainage project.
Staff presented a rough measurement of the section from County Road 500 East to the head of Long Branch (about 6,185 feet) and offered a $15-per-foot construction estimate (roughly $92,700 for the segment discussed). The board proposed assessment rates for the public hearing of $10 per acre, $100 per home site, $10 per parcel, $50 for hard-surface runoff, $200 for commercial property and a $20 minimum collection. Board members discussed that if nearby solar developers make a one-time donation — which representatives indicated they might consider — the assessment rates could be adjusted downward at the hearing.
A motion to set the public hearing for Sept. 8 with the proposed rates was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. Board members said staff will publish the hearing notice, present the rate schedule and be prepared to explain how a developer donation would affect the assessment roll.
The board noted that the scope and cost estimates are preliminary and that a formal survey and map will be required before final assessments are adopted. The hearing will give landowners a chance to review the rates, ask questions and offer input before the board considers final action.
