MARQUETTE COUNTY, Wis. — At its Oct. 6, 2025 meeting, the Marquette County Department of Human Services board heard updates on veteran benefits and local services affected by the federal government shutdown.
Damaris Thome logged into the meeting for the Veterans Services report, and staff member Kris Bergh shared a written update on federal and state benefit changes tied to the shutdown. Bergh said the 2025 WDVA grant application has been published for Human Services to apply and that the grant amounts will increase by about 16 percent.
Board members discussed possible implications if federal funding remains delayed. Mary Walters, who called the meeting to order, later told the board that Community Action Program (CAP) had suspended weatherization services because of the shutdown and expressed concern about future funding for both weatherization and Head Start programs.
No formal action was taken; staff said they will monitor the funding situation, pursue eligible grant opportunities, and return updates to the board. The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 3, 2025 at 1 p.m.
