Mayor announces LMA award, Splash Bash and local project updates in St. Martinville

Mayor Jason Willis delivered the mayor’s report with community updates and event announcements.
Willis said the city won first place in a Louisiana Municipal Association (LMA) award for the Art on Fire Hydrant Project. He announced Splash Bash on Aug. 9, 2025, including a ribbon cutting for the pavilion near the pool and Hall of Fame-sponsored assistance to pay for children’s swimming and provide food. The mayor also noted two vigils held for Iris Davis and said police were working on leads with assistance from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office (SMSO).
On facilities, Willis reported the pavilion in Adam Carlson Park is roughly 70% complete and that two large fans had been installed under the Magnolia Park pavilion. He said demolition under a clearance grant had removed about half of the houses identified for removal. He also announced a "Kuts 4 Kids" school-supply distribution scheduled for Aug. 10.
No formal council action was taken on these reports during the meeting.
