Mather Center sets July 1 renewal deadline, adds part-time receptionist and previews summer programming

At the June 17 Commission on Aging meeting, Ali Ramsteck, Director of Human Services and the Mather Senior Center, outlined membership, staffing and programming updates for the Mather Center.
Ramsteck told commissioners that annual membership renewals for the July 2026–June 2027 year are due by July 1, 2026. Darien residents receive complimentary membership and may enroll year-round; current non-resident members must renew and pay a $25 fee to remain active. Ramsteck said approximately 60 non-resident individuals remain on the waitlist and that spaces not renewed by July 1 will be offered to those waiting.
To improve front-desk coverage and member services, the town approved a new part-time receptionist position that will provide coverage Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., complementing volunteer receptionists who staff the desk in the mornings. Ramsteck said administration approved the proposal to add the position to support busy periods and allow program staff to focus on coordination.
Ramsteck also reviewed upcoming programs and one-time events: a substance-misuse and Narcan training, the Mather Homestead's America 250 lecture series, Tick Safety and Lyme Disease prevention programming, a Sun Kings musical performance, the Monitor My Health mobile clinic (free A1C, blood pressure and fall-risk screenings), an Ice Cream Social and Games program, Stamford Health's Geriatrics Emergency Medicine Initiative presentation, the Sedgewick Sisters musical performance, and an RVNA Safe Driving for Seniors talk.
She announced the center will be closed Aug. 5–7 for its annual deep cleaning; a new contractor will complete the work in three days, shortening the closure. A member satisfaction survey will be distributed in July and results will be reviewed with the commission.
