Senior Center reports rising attendance, uneven cooling and plans equipment purchase

At the June 11 meeting the Senior Center director, Holly Marrero, gave a services report covering May 25–June 10: 820 attendances with 55 out‑of‑town guests, 994 events offered that served 1,137 patrons, 16 hours of social services and 111 hours of transportation; 104 people attended the Senior Center on the day of the meeting.
Marrero described two operational limits in the building’s cooling system: overall age and that the controls are digitally managed by a town employee who is only occasionally in the Senior Center, which prevents staff from adjusting settings; as a result temperature is inconsistent across spaces and staff sometimes must move patrons or shift programming. When asked if patrons were seeking energy assistance or cooling at home, Marrero said no requests had been recorded so far.
The COA also reviewed equipment and fiscal items. Dr. Rosenberg noted fiscal year‑to‑date expenditures of $930.61 from a $4,400 budget. The Senior Center provided an invoice for a new treadmill costing $1,701.60 which the COA will purchase; Jack Solomon recommended that encumbrances be finalized and included in the budget report.
Planning and events: Dr. Cookie Mankowski and Kathy Megan reported that planning for a Nov. 7 Health & Wellness Expo is proceeding, team captains are active, and the working group expects a comprehensive report by August.
Next steps: The COA will finalize treadmill procurement and continue to document facility cooling concerns for follow up with town staff and appropriate departments.
