Plattwood Park to get new playground; director authorized to sign equipment contract

Deep River’s Parks & Recreation Commission on June 10 authorized the Park & Rec director to sign a contract for playground equipment at Plattwood Park after members confirmed the plan will remain below the $42,000 grant limit.
The motion to authorize Director Cailey Anderson to sign the playground equipment contract was made by Commissioner Jonathon Wolfer and seconded by Kayla Howard; the commission approved the motion unanimously. The commission was told officials hope installation will take place by the end of the summer.
The action follows the recent restoration of reductions to the Park & Rec budget by the Board of Finance; commissioners were reminded a town budget vote is scheduled for June 16. First Selectman Carol Doak Jones also reviewed final plans for a new concessions and bathroom building at Plattwood Park and said delivery of that pre-fabricated facility is expected in September.
Cailey Anderson told the commission the Plattwood playground plan has been finalized and that the projected cost will remain below the stated $42,000 grant cap. The commission approved the contract-authorization motion without recorded dissent.
The commission’s next procedural steps are to proceed with contract execution and coordinate installation timing with town staff and vendors. The budget vote on June 16 will determine final funding for the 2026–27 Park and Recreation appropriation.
