The Avon Volunteer Fire Department Fire Station Expansion, Renovation, and Building Committee on Feb. 27, 2025 heard a project update from the architect and confirmed next steps after the Town Council approved $50,000 to advance the design phase with Tecton.
Chairperson James Speich called the special GoToMeeting session to order at 7:13 p.m. and said the $50,000 was approved at the Town Council meeting on Feb. 6, 2025 to “move on with the next phase with Tecton” so the team can facilitate interactive workshops to identify project priorities, critical programmatic needs, cost-saving opportunities and alternative design options. Mr. McElravy, the project architect, provided a presentation; slides were made part of the meeting minutes.
Assistant Town Manager Grace Tiezzi told the committee she discussed holding the committee’s prioritization workshop on March 20, 2025 with the project architects; the committee continued scheduling discussion and considered another suggested date. The committee also reviewed questions, concerns and ideas raised during the architect’s presentation.
On routine business, the committee unanimously approved the Oct. 17, 2024 meeting minutes on a motion by Mark Massaro, seconded by Gina Kline. The committee then unanimously approved its 2025 meeting schedule on a motion by Chairperson Speich, seconded by Mr. Massaro.
The special meeting, held remotely via GoToMeeting, adjourned at 8:26 p.m. on a motion by Gina Kline seconded by Chairperson Speich. The minutes were signed by Mark Massaro, Vice-Chairman and Secretary, and attested by Clerk Nicole Chambers.
Next steps: the committee plans interactive workshops with Tecton to refine priorities and options; a prioritization workshop was proposed for March 20, 2025, and staff will finalize scheduling with the architect.
