Library Director B. Klem briefed the Board of Library Trustees on staffing, facilities and capital projects at the May 12 meeting. The director said the Young Adult Librarian search drew 35 applicants; staff conducted eight initial Zoom interviews and scheduled four in-person interviews from that pool.
Klem reported that Neal Tandon’s Eagle Scout project — the installation of two bat houses — is complete, and that a television failure in the gaming station prompted repurposing the lower-level space as a reading nook. Klem also said she has joined the Minuteman Library Network bylaws committee.
On facilities, Klem stated the HVAC project has entered the design phase and is scheduled for completion by December 2026. She told trustees that planned restroom renovations were not included in the Town’s FY27 capital budget because of an administrative oversight; according to the minutes, Town Administration has committed to handling that project in FY28. Trustees discussed establishing a Facilities Committee and designating a trustee to lead it for FY27 to track capital projects and renovations.
The board did not take formal votes on hiring or the HVAC schedule at this meeting; trustees directed the director to follow up with the Town on the restroom renovation timeline.
