Chicopee trustees approve Friends’ silent auction; director to buy summer seating, trustee summarizes AI webinar

At the May 4 meeting of the Chicopee Public Library trustees, the board approved a request from the Friends of the Chicopee Public Library to hold a silent auction and heard operational and policy-related updates.
The Friends requested permission to display artwork and craft items in the library’s Community Room for a silent auction. Trustee Barbara Pronovost moved to approve the request; Trustee Karen Kamienski seconded the motion, and the trustees voted 3-0 to approve the event. Dates and times will be set following trustee coordination of the Community Room schedule.
Director Laura Bovee said she will purchase four chairs for patrons to use under the recently installed shade sails in the library backyard to encourage use of the outdoor space.
In other business, Trustee Barbara Pronovost reported on an April 24 webinar about artificial intelligence and libraries. She said much of the webinar discussion focused on the challenge of drafting formal AI policies and that many attendees recommended developing flexible guidelines rather than fixed policies because the technology is changing rapidly.
The trustees adjourned at 10:35 a.m.
