Chicopee board requires HIPAA authorizations for new members, directs outreach to police and fire chiefs

At its March 25, 2026 meeting the Chicopee Retirement Board voted to require HIPAA authorization forms from all new system members and directed Executive Director Ana P. Gomes to contact police and fire chiefs to obtain HIPAA authorizations from current police and fire members.
The motion, made by Debra Boronski and seconded by David Ference, passed unanimously. Board minutes record a staff report from PERAC noting that a few retirees had been evaluated under M.G.L. Chapter 32, Section 8 and, at the time of the report, were unable to perform job duties; no board action on those individual evaluations was required at the meeting.
The minutes reflect the board’s intent to collect HIPAA authorization proactively for new enrollees and to secure authorizations for current public-safety employees through outreach to department chiefs.
