Eastham Board of Health elects new chair and authorizes support letter for 'Health Care for All'

At its June meeting, the Eastham Board of Health reorganized leadership and took two administrative actions: it elected Francancy Williamson as chair and Elena as co‑chair for the coming year, and it authorized Chair Francancy to draft and submit a letter from the board supporting the state‑level "Health Care for All" proposal that town meeting previously approved.

During nominations the board confirmed Francancy as chair and Elena as co‑chair; the co‑chair vote included one abstention. "I'll try and do a good job," Francancy said after being elected. The board asked staff to notify the town clerk and the select board of the reorganization.

On minutes, the board agreed to hold approval of the public‑hearing minutes for May 28 while staff reviews video to clarify whether the board set a nicotine limit at 6 mg, 8 mg, or chose not to set a limit. The standard May 28 meeting minutes were approved with one abstention from a member who had not attended.

The board also acknowledged receipt of a complaint letter and concluded the matter is outside the Board of Health's regulatory purview (zoning was identified as the appropriate jurisdiction). Staff was directed to notify the sender that the issue falls to the Zoning Board.

Finally, a member moved that Chair Francancy write a letter supporting the "Health Care for All" proposal for the state legislature; the motion was seconded and the board voted in favor. Members indicated the intent was to reflect the town meeting result and urge local legislators to back the measure.

The meeting adjourned after those actions.
