The Lucas Local Board of Education on Aug. 20 elected Roger Maglott to serve as board vice president for the remainder of 2024 and set representation for the Ohio School Boards Association annual conference.
In a roll-call vote recorded in the meeting minutes, the board approved the election "upon motion by Mr. Cooper and seconded by Mrs. Cuthbertson," with all five members voting yes. The board also appointed Mr. Timothy Cooper as the district delegate and Mrs. Amy Cuthbertson as the alternate to the OSBA Capital Conference scheduled for Nov. 10–12, 2024; the delegates’ primary responsibility was noted as Monday, Nov. 11.
The board voted, also unanimously, to cancel its Sept. 3, 2024 meeting. President Timothy Cooper called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance before business began.
Why it matters: Leadership and delegate appointments shape who represents the district at statewide gatherings where policy, legal and training items are discussed. The cancellation of the early-September meeting shortens the board’s near-term meeting calendar ahead of the school year.
What happened next: The board’s unanimous votes on these procedural items were followed by a series of operational approvals, including personnel hires and policy revisions discussed later in the meeting.
