Lynchburg-Clay honors state Envirothon champions and building custodians

The Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education recognized its high school Envirothon Team and honored building custodians at its Aug. 22, 2024, regular meeting.
Mr. Zink, the high school principal, introduced teacher and Envirothon coach Lara Hamilton and the team — Abigail Shepherd, Abbigail Manning, Gage Thompson, Kylie O'Connor and Cloe Williamson. The team won first place at the state Envirothon competition at Hocking College, taking top marks on forestry, soils and their oral presentation, which qualified them for the national competition in Geneva, New York, where they placed 11th.
The recognition also included certificates presented to building custodians. Mr. Zink introduced high school custodians Jeff Jones and Vicky Shaffer (head custodian Keith Setty was not present). Mrs. Godby introduced Jan Winkle and Ginger Barrett from the middle school, and Mrs. Achtermann introduced Shane Simmons, Matt Slack and Sandy West from the elementary building. The board presented certificates acknowledging the custodians’ service to the district.
Board members and district staff framed the remarks as recognition of student achievement and the day‑to‑day work that supports school operations. No formal action beyond presentation of certificates was taken during the recognition segment.
