Corning board approves budget-guarantee resolution, schedules March 23 tax-levy hearing

The Corning Community School District Board of Education voted unanimously Feb. 16 to adopt a budget-guarantee resolution that authorizes the district to levy property tax for fiscal year 2026–2027 for the regular program budget adjustment under section 257.14 of the Code of Iowa.
Board President Staci Venteicher presided over the meeting. The motion to approve the resolution was moved by Director Adam Boswell and seconded by Director Stephanie Hodapp; the resolution carried without dissent.
The board also approved a motion, moved by Director Trent Roberts and seconded by Director Ryan Shuey, to publish the notice of the proposed 2026–2027 tax-levy hearing on March 5 and to hold the hearing on March 23 at 6:30 p.m. The board changed its regular March meeting date to March 23 to accommodate the hearing.
Why it matters: the budget-guarantee resolution allows the district to pursue a property-tax levy that will affect the district’s revenue base for the coming school year and sets the formal public-review step. The hearing and the published notice give taxpayers an opportunity to comment before the board takes final action.
