Police chief will restart search for part‑time officer after approved candidate goes silent

Police Chief David Pernice told the Union City Borough Council on Aug. 27 that the previously approved candidate for a recently authorized position has not responded to outreach. Chief Pernice said he has tried to make contact without success and therefore is assuming the candidate is no longer interested.
Pernice said there are 32 candidates on the consortium list and that his preference would be to hire two part‑time officers, although the council had approved only one position. He said he will reach out to the consortium, send letters and check with the Civil Service Commission to set up oral exams. Council agreed to continue searching for one part‑time officer.
