Denison council trims sidewalks from 2nd Avenue South project, saving about $80,000

The Denison City Council reviewed changes to the 2nd Avenue South reconstruction design on April 7 after Beck Engineering staff said a field walkthrough led to removing sidewalk and driveway replacement work from the project scope.
Jason Eygabroad told councilmembers that excluding sidewalks from the city-led portion of the project will save approximately $80,000. Councilmember Crawford noted existing city policy requires homeowners to replace sidewalks adjacent to their properties. Eygabroad said the project will still update sidewalk intersections to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
Eygabroad also recommended replacing an alley intersection by Frehse Manufacturing at an estimated cost of $22,500 if the council elects to include that work. The council did not take a final funding vote on the alley intersection during the meeting; the report and cost estimates were provided for council consideration.
