The Denison City Council on May 19 unanimously tabled consideration of a proposed solid-waste hauler contract while staff continues negotiations on schedule and price. The council also tabled an ordinance (Section 105.17) proposing changes to solid-waste control and recycling fees and charges.
Separately, councilors discussed Ordinance 76 (Bicycle Regulations) and asked City Manager Garcia to update the ordinance to address electric bicycles.
Late in the meeting the council entered closed session at 6:00 p.m. under Iowa Code Section 21.5(1)(i) to evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment or performance was under consideration and who requested a closed session; the council returned to open session at 6:27 p.m. and took no action.
What’s next: Staff will continue negotiations with the solid-waste hauler and prepare a revised bicycle ordinance for future consideration; any personnel matters will follow applicable legal processes and confidentiality rules.
