Denison — The Denison City Council unanimously adopted the city’s Fiscal Year 2026–2027 budget and approved the issuance of $1,790,000 in general obligation corporate purpose bonds during its April 21 meeting.
The council opened a public hearing on the proposed budget at 5:00 p.m.; the record shows there were no written or oral objections, and Mayor Dustin Logan closed the hearing before the council voted to adopt Resolution #2026-25 approving the annual budget. Shortly afterward the council adopted Resolution #2026-26 authorizing the issuance of $1,790,000 in General Obligation Corporate Purpose Bonds, Series 2026, and providing for the levy of taxes to repay them. Both measures passed by unanimous vote.
Councilmembers Zupp-Smith and Peterson led the motions adopting the budget; the bond resolution was moved by Zupp-Smith and seconded by Crawford. The meeting minutes record all votes as unanimous; no dissenting votes or abstentions were recorded.
The budget adoption followed the standard procedural hearing; the council’s action finalizes city spending priorities for the coming fiscal year. The bond issuance provides the borrowing authority the city described in the resolution to fund identified capital needs and related debt service. Specific project allocations and the bond repayment schedule were reflected in the resolution materials on file with the city clerk and were not read into the meeting minutes.
Next steps: the city clerk will publish the budget summary as required by Iowa law and the city will proceed with administrative actions required to close the bond sale and record the debt.
