The board’s action formalizes the county’s support for awareness and prevention efforts and calls for increased community education on identifying victims and local services to assist survivors. The proclamation notes that trafficking often goes unreported because of victims’ isolation and a lack of awareness about indicators.
No public debate followed reading of the proclamation; the board approved it by voice vote.
The proclamation text urged businesses and consumers to avoid products made with forced labor and encouraged community members to be vigilant and report concerns to the national hotline and the Iowa network for additional resources.
