Emergency services report: PCGSC renovations continue; amended 911 fee ordinance under review

Rick Gillespie, Pendleton County Emergency Services Coordinator, reported during the Nov. 4 meeting that renovations are continuing at the Pendleton County General Services Center (PCGSC) in the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) offices. He said a Request for Bids will run in The Pendleton Times next week for additional office-space work.
Gillespie also said the county will perform additional quiet-zone testing this week. Separately, he reported that Prosecuting Attorney April Mallow had reviewed an amended 911 Fee Ordinance; Gillespie said contact information and addresses need verification before the ordinance is ready for a public meeting. The version described in the meeting record would increase the residential fee from $2.50 to $5.00 and the business fee from $8.00 to $12.00.
During the same set of reports, attendee Mike Alt noted emergency services are seeing funding issues related to the federal government shutdown; the commission record does not quantify the funding shortfall.
No formal vote was recorded on the 911 fee ordinance at the Nov. 4 meeting. The commission’s minutes indicate the ordinance will be prepared for public review after the contact/address verification and any required procedural steps are completed.
