Proponents said a significant portion of the needed funding is expected from private sources and that the facility could serve regional audiences and provide emergency gathering space.
Some public commenters and a board member raised concerns about the scale of the project and the possibility of local taxpayers being asked to cover shortfalls; an estimated $44 million figure was cited in public comments. Project representatives said the Partnership for the Performing Arts has invested in planning and community outreach and that a majority of funding is expected to come from private sources if fundraising succeeds.
The board approved appointing the two supervisors and authorized staff support, voting unanimously.
