The legislative body voted to appropriate $15,000 from the town’s Open Space Reserve to acquire a 10.262-acre parcel on the west side of South Sheepskin Hollow Road for open space purposes, to be named the Urban Farm Preserve.
A presenter described the parcel’s 1,800 feet of frontage on Roaring Brook, its potential to link via Sheepskin Hollow to nearby Roaring Brook Preserve and East Haddam Land Trust properties, and long-term plans to cross the brook (contingent on grants) to connect to the Hatch Lot. The speaker said the site could support a small parking area for neighborhood access and noted the presence of fish and other natural resources.
The motion to appropriate funds and authorize the Board of Selectmen to acquire the property carried by voice vote.
