Council schedules first review of mid‑year supplemental for July 21; amendments due days later

Councilmembers said the City Council will take its first committee‑level look at Seattle’s mid‑year supplemental budget on July 21 after central staff took additional time to complete its memo.
"Central staff is currently working to review and write the memo. We’ll take a couple extra weeks," Councilmember Saka said, adding that amendments to the supplemental will be due three days after the July 21 briefing. A second committee briefing and vote is scheduled for Aug. 4, with Council action expected in mid‑August.
Council members framed the delay as an effort to allow fuller participation by Native communities and tribal governments and to ensure amendments are developed with sufficient notice. Saka said the Council will publish amendment information in advance of the July briefing so members and the public can review proposals.
The schedule matters because mid‑year supplements can shift resources mid‑fiscal year and are often the vehicle for grant adjustments, new service requests, or reallocation of department priorities. Councilmembers and staff emphasized that final adoption will depend on the usual committee process, opportunities for amendments, and subsequent votes.
