The Village of Stockbridge Planning Commission voted unanimously Feb. 2, 2023, to recommend that Village Council approve a site plan for a new Dollar General Market at 260 West Main Street, provided several conditions are met.
Commissioner Jennifer Conant moved the recommendation after a presentation by Mark Z and Eric Lorde and a period of questions about parking, traffic and natural screening. Conant’s motion — seconded by Commissioner Kim Morehouse — listed specific conditions: all required permits must be approved before construction begins; the Village Council must authorize a reduction in the off‑street parking requirement from 84 stalls to 55 stalls under the flexibility clause of ordinance 6‑260/6‑261; the commission asked that Village engineer Wolverine’s comments be taken into account; and a conservation easement be recorded along the north property line to ensure the natural grasses and screening remain intact, subject to approval by the Village attorney.
The commission’s unanimous recommendation means the matter now moves to Village Council for final approval of the site-plan recommendation and the requested parking reduction. Commissioners raised parking, traffic and screening as the central considerations during the discussion; the minutes record no formal objections and note the motion carried with unanimous ayes.
If approved by the council and after permits are secured, the developer may proceed with construction under the listed conditions. The commission did not set specific timelines for council action in the minutes; next procedural steps are council review and permit issuance.
