County approves Vesta NXT phone system and IT renewals to enable NextGen 911 and remote call-taking

St. Joseph County commissioners on June 30 approved a package of public-safety and IT purchases that county staff said will modernize 911 call handling and replace end-of-life equipment.
A St. Joseph County 911 representative presented an AT&T Vesta NXT cloud phone solution covering primary and backup centers in a five-year agreement; staff said the system supports NextGen 911 functionality and remote call-taking, and that the county secured roughly a 3% discount. Commissioners approved the Vesta NXT purchase agreement.
Staff then presented a renewal of Microsoft 365 licensing for the 911 center (G1 licenses selected for cost savings versus G3/G5 options) and explained the county may consolidate licensing in future procurements for additional savings; commissioners approved the renewal.
IT Director Richard Warfield requested and received approval to replace non-serviceable cameras for adult probation (capital funds available). The board also approved a Check Point ERM advanced purchase from Cubit Networks to identify and manage enterprise infrastructure risks.
Staff said they will continue working with county IT and auditors to identify future cost savings opportunities and to coordinate implementation schedules for the new phone platform and security tooling.
