Port Clinton pursues arborist and GIS tree map; plans Arbor Day plantings and downtown replacements

Hohlman also reported he contacted several nurseries seeking a Buckeye or a hybrid chestnut as a specimen for Arbor Day plantings and to identify replacement trees for aging large container trees downtown.
Commissioner Ed Urban said the top browning on downtown pot trees was caused by last summer’s drought and recommended removing the damaged material ahead of replacements. Commissioners discussed using Adams St Park for Arbor Day plantings but noted two large stumps on the proposed site must be ground down; Paul Christman said he is searching for a stump grinder to remove them so new trees can be planted in the same spots.
The commission was reminded of the upcoming Tree City Award event in Bowling Green and discussed possible attendees to represent Port Clinton. No public comment was recorded.
The commission set a follow-up date for its next regular meeting on March 11, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.
