Auburndale City Commission hears update on Lake Myrtle Sports Park projects

The scope presented includes new restrooms for multiple soccer fields, stadium fencing, design and construction of improvements to the Championship Water Sports Lake, three multi-purpose football/soccer fields, relocation of an onsite residence and maintenance shop, design and construction of a baseball stadium, design of softball fields, and artificial turf fields at the Auburndale Softball Complex. McGhee said the interlocal agreement creates a completion obligation that falls in either 2029 or 2030.
Commissioner Sean Levy asked how long Phase 1 is expected to take; McGhee reiterated the near-term bid timing and the overall obligation date. Commissioner Crystal Tijerina asked whether the new restrooms would eliminate the need for portable restrooms; McGhee said they would reduce reliance on portables except for larger events.
The commission took no formal vote on the Lake Myrtle presentation; the item was presented for information and scheduling. Next steps as described by staff are finalizing design documents, preparing bid packages, and aligning construction with event schedules and the interlocal funding timeline.
