Mapleton Local approves personnel moves, coaches and two student travel trips; one substitute hire carried with an abstention

The Mapleton Local School District Board approved routine personnel actions and multiple pupil‑activity contracts at its Nov. 19 meeting.
Acting on the Superintendent’s Consent Agenda, the board approved lists of certified and classified substitutes, accepted resignations (including the retirement of Head Cook Gale Andres effective Jan. 1, 2025), and approved transfers (including Pam Tallos to Head Cook and Justine Paramore to an 8‑hour cook position at Mapleton High/Middle School effective Jan. 1, 2025). The consent agenda was approved by motion.
The board approved supplemental and pupil‑activity contracts for the 2024–25 school year, including volunteer indoor track coaches and boys’ grade‑level basketball coaches. The board approved Chloe Britton and Kiersten Proulx of the YMCA of Ashland to coach Mapleton High School gymnastics and approved gymnastics as an OHSAA sport for the 2024–25 school year. Those personnel and activity items were approved unanimously unless otherwise noted.
Kathy Goon moved and Mindy Scurlock seconded the approval of Baeleigh Powers Benner as a certified substitute; the vote recorded four yes votes and one abstention (ShaNa Benner).
The board also approved two overnight/extended student trips: six Mapleton High School students on the Veteran’s Honor Bus trip to Washington, D.C., Nov. 1–3, 2024; and the Mapleton National Honor Society trip to the NHS National Convention in Chicago, Jan. 31–Feb. 2, 2025. Both trips were approved by motion and recorded as carried.
These approvals complete routine personnel and extracurricular approvals for the district ahead of the winter season.
