Mapleton Local board approves October financial report, creates new grant funds and OKs three‑year license for radio communications

The Mapleton Local School District Board on Nov. 19 accepted the October 2024 financial report and approved Activity Statements of Purpose and Budgets for fiscal 2025.
Kathy Goon moved to accept the October financial report, seconded by Mindy Scurlock; the board approved the motion unanimously. The board also approved Activity Statements and budgets for FY25 on a motion by Vince Hartzler, seconded by ShaNa Benner.
The board approved the creation of several new funds, including a Thomas Donley Memorial fund (007‑900K) and multiple ACCF grant‑linked funds (019‑9209 Reading Passport; 019‑9205 Cultivating Classroom Connections; 019‑9204 Making Reading and Writing Hands‑On, Fun and Purposeful; 019‑9201 Playing and Learning on the Blacktop; 019‑9200 Little Spots of Emotions). That motion carried unanimously.
Board members also approved the November 2024 updated Five Year Forecast and assumptions for fiscal years 2025 through 2029.
Donations accepted in October included: Mapleton Marching Band ($110); multiple gifts to the Thomas Donley Memorial (ranging $25–$50); Mapleton Athletic Booster donation to Mapleton Golf Team ($2,410); a $4,000 gift for an MHS scorer table; and an anonymous donation of gravel valued at $320 for a concession shed. The donations were approved by motion and recorded as accepted.
In a non‑financial contract action, the board approved a three‑year Revocable License Agreement with Rural Lorain County Water Authority to use an elevated storage tank to transmit radio communications for the Mapleton transportation department; the motion passed unanimously.
These actions update the district’s short‑term budgeting structure and the approved contract provides a facilities arrangement for school transportation radio systems.
