Police chief reports LESO inspection complete; department to return surplus weapons, notes vehicle and facility updates

Magnolia Police Chief Chad Schlimm told the Village Council Feb. 19 that the LESO (Law Enforcement Support Office) physical inspection has been completed and all LESO equipment was accounted for. Chief Schlimm said the department will ship back seven M14 rifles and seven M1911 pistols to Anniston, Alabama, with postage expected to be similar to a recent return (about $350–$450).
Chief Schlimm also briefed council on a Jan. 17 early-morning crash in the 300 block of North Main handled by OSHP that resulted in an OVI charge pending in court. He reported that Blasenhauer Plumbing & Heating completed installation of a garage bay heater, which has performed well, and noted that the heat in police vehicle CAR 2 works only while the vehicle is in motion; he said that given recent department expenses this does not require immediate repair and CAR 1 can be used if needed. Maintenance staff has begun building a new evidence room in the police department, the chief added.
Council members heard the operational updates and did not take formal action at the meeting on equipment returns or vehicle repairs; the LESO inspection schedule is every three years going forward.
