Magnolia Village Council voted Feb. 19 to authorize Mayor Travis Boyd to sign a proposed three-year agreement with Trebel Energy covering the village's electric and natural-gas aggregation programs, contingent on review by the village financial department.
Steven King of Trebel Energy briefed the council on the timing and options. The village's current electric contract with Archer Energy expires May 31, 2025; industry projections cited by King anticipate energy-price pressure beginning June 1, potentially as much as 10 cents per kilowatt-hour. Trebel offered a contract option that would lock the energy portion at an effective 7-cent increase compared with the current rate, while the capacity portion of bills would continue to vary annually. For natural gas, the village's contract expires March 31, 2025; Trebel proposed a three-year renewal that would guarantee a 2% discount on the ADAR rate and said it would alert the village if a better rate became available.
King told the council that residents would receive new opt-out letters each year describing the locked-in rate and their right to opt out of the aggregation program. Grant Downes moved to authorize the mayor to sign the agreement pending the financial department's review; Kurt Stanley seconded the motion and council voted "All Ayes."
The council did not adopt a final enrollment action at the meeting; the motion authorized the mayor to sign the agreement subject to the financial review and any additional checks the village requires. The financial department review and the timing of any enrollment notices to residents will determine when opt-out letters are issued.
