Council opts for concrete aprons, flags catch-basin repairs as priority ahead of paving

Council agreed to use concrete for six sidewalk aprons and preserve historic pavers near the Mill. Council members reported recent repairs to four catch basins and warned that next year paving funds may need to be redirected to more widespread catch-basin replacement.
Council discussed several infrastructure items at its Oct. 16 meeting focused on sidewalks, drainage and pavement preservation.
The village was asked by W. E. Quicksall whether six sidewalk aprons should be asphalt or concrete; Council agreed on concrete and directed Quicksall to retain and reinstall historic pavers by the Mill after removing old material and leveling a base.
Scott Noble reported recent interaction with Perrin Asphalt (they have been billed for prior paving work) and said Perrin will seal pavement edges. He also noted Joe Little Excavating repaired four catch basins recently, including one still on an original wooden frame and another at risk of washing out under the pavement. Noble said the scope of needed catch-basin replacements could force the village to prioritize repairs over larger paving projects next year. Council also discussed removal of trees near Frank Young's home that must be addressed before sidewalk work begins.
