The Medford Area Public School District Board of Education reviewed a comprehensive set of policy and bylaw updates during the June 29 meeting. The board listed multiple items for first reading in Vol. 35.1, including revisions to Bylaw 0100 (Definitions), Bylaw 0142.7 (Orientation), Bylaw 0144.5 (Board member behavior, communications and code of conduct), and numerous policies governing reading instruction, Title I family engagement, interscholastic athletics, student identification numbers and cards, personal communication devices, third‑grade promotion, student parking, and a replacement Artificial Intelligence policy (Policy 7540.08).
Separately, the board received a special Act 89 update that included additional first‑reading revisions on student supervision, staff and school officials’ personal device use, student technology and acceptable use, social media, volunteers, and child abuse and neglect reporting.
On a separate agenda item the board accepted three RVA policies on second reading — RVA‑JEC (School Admissions), RVA‑IGCD (Start College Now/Early College Credit Program), and RVA‑IGHB (Physical Education Equivalent Courses) — by motion; the minutes record the motion to accept these policies as presented and that the motion carried.
Minutes record that the policies listed for first reading will move forward through the board’s established policy process; specific implementation dates, administrative guidelines, or substantive changes beyond the titles shown are not recorded in these minutes.
