Magnolia Council readies Memorial Day parade, hears cemetery donation and pickleball court proposal

Eric White reminded the council that the Memorial Day parade will start at approximately 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 26, 2025, and will conclude with an 11:00 a.m. cemetery service. He also raised ongoing parking problems at the ballfields and reported a resident noted the park water fountain is not working.
Claudia Rogers told council that Mr. Gus Elson's family has offered $1,000 to help right and repair very old headstones that have fallen; council received the offer positively and noted the cemetery contract work by Bill Kegley is complete. Rogers also said she provided two flags for the ballpark flagpoles.
Mayor Travis Boyd said the Magnolia Parks Improvement Committee has begun preliminary work on raising funds for improved court surfaces to accommodate pickleball. He said Troy Hysong Asphalt proposed applying sealant with grit and repainting lines to allow tennis, basketball and pickleball use on existing court surfaces.
Separately, realtor Steven Nisel contacted the mayor about vacating an alley west of the park near the fire station; the council said it will research whether the alley could be vacated or sold.
