Magnolia plans equipment purchases and repairs amid road concerns

Shawn, who reports on village work, told the March 19 Council meeting that recent road patching with a bag‑patch mixture has worked well but that a pothole on Main Street in front of the Bank of Magnolia will not be repaired by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) because it is the Village’s responsibility.

Shawn said the Village truck sustained broken exhaust bracket bolts; Loudon Motors examined the vehicle but the work would not be covered under warranty, and Shawn plans to remove and replace the broken bolts. He also requested the Village consider buying a small leaf blower/vacuum because the existing large backpack blower is ineffective in some areas and lacks a vacuum feature; Council member Claudia Rogers said she would check prices at Bair’s.

Council member Scott Noble described road inspections that identified Plain and Cline Streets and a culvert sinkhole on Harrison Street as priorities. Noble proposed the village consider joining nearby municipalities to jointly purchase an asphalt trailer that keeps mix hot overnight to avoid rushing repairs; he suggested seeking ergonomically safer designs and possible BWC safety grant funding.

Parks and public buildings matters include the delivery of a boom lift stored at the Trussell Building; Council member and Fire Chief Eric White said he will acquire two safety harnesses, develop training for operators and have Fiscal Officer Penny Rainsberger coordinate with the insurance carrier to add the lift to the village policy. Eric also noted a village Clean Up Day on April 12 and the SV Girls Youth Softball Hit‑A‑Thon on April 26.
