Magnolia secures codification grant; sidewalk match and Corps lease noted

Mayor Travis Boyd told the council on March 19 that the Village has been approved for a $6,000 Carroll County grant to begin codifying its ordinances and has applied to the Stark County Foundation for an additional $6,000 grant. Once those funds are received, the Mayor said he will sign the codification project contract; the Village will then be responsible for an approximate $6,000 balance and a recurring yearly maintenance fee.
The Mayor also said the Village has been contacted by the Ohio Department of Transportation about a TAP (sidewalk) project and that the Village’s 5% match will be due soon. A previously planned April 6 groundbreaking ceremony was canceled.
Separately, the Mayor said he received paperwork from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to renew a 20‑year lease covering the area off North Main Street that manages storm sewers flowing into the Mill Pond. The lease renewal and the TAP match are matters the Village will need to manage as project work moves forward.
In other items, Ms. Nikki Boyd asked the Council to consider allowing alcohol at this year’s Canal Days Festival and presented a sample permit; Council asked staff to research the permitting option before any decision.
