Shelby council extends employee contract and approves $54,994 electrical invoice

Mayor Ron Kroll presided over a June 30 special session of the Shelby City Council that ran from 7:00 p.m. to 8:25 p.m. The council went into closed session to discuss a confidential personnel matter under Iowa Code 21.5(1)(i) and later took two unanimous votes upon returning to open session.

Councilmember Traci True moved — and Councilmember Jackie Hursey seconded — a motion to extend the contract of city employee Joey Brenneis for up to one year. The council approved the extension by unanimous roll-call vote. The council recorded that the extension is intended to give the employee time to obtain required licenses while allowing the council to monitor performance. Under the approved terms, employees on extended contracts will undergo formal performance evaluations every 60 days; those evaluations will be conducted by the employee’s direct supervisors and a written summary will be presented to the council.

The council also approved payment of an invoice from Schraeder Electric for $54,994.84 on a motion by Councilmember Pat Honeywell, seconded by Councilmember Todd Frank. That motion passed on a unanimous roll call. Earlier, the council approved the meeting agenda and reported no conflicts of interest.
