Byram introduces ordinances on out-of-town firefighter membership and stormwater updates; public hearing set Sept. 17
Summary
Council introduced two ordinances: one to permit out-of-town firefighters in good standing to join the fire department and another updating Chapter 211 (Stormwater Control) to comply with NJDEP; both are scheduled for final consideration Sept. 17, 2024.
The Township Council introduced two ordinances for first reading. The first would amend Chapter 22 to permit nonresident firefighters who are in good standing to become members of the Byram Township Fire Department; the ordinance will be further considered for final passage on Sept. 17, 2024, and the council opened the future hearing date to public comment at that time.
The council also introduced amendments to Chapter 211 (Stormwater Control) to comply with New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection requirements. Township Manager Joseph Sabatini summarized the need for code updates and Mr. Tom Knutelsky, present as a technical advisor, answered Council questions about specific sections (stormwater design, retrofitting) and inlet types; Knutelsky said the plan designates the curb opening as a "curb type B inlet." The stormwater ordinance was also scheduled for final passage consideration on Sept. 17, 2024.
No final votes on either ordinance occurred at the Sept. 3 meeting; both were introduced and set for public hearing on Sept. 17, 2024.
