Police Chief Shaundra Randolph updated the Village Board on staffing and recent departmental activity on July 15.
Chief Randolph announced promotions to fill leadership and investigative roles: Chuck Donovan was promoted to assistant chief; Adam Gallenberger to lieutenant; Steffen Pawlak to sergeant; Lucas Roth to corporal; and Skyler Feuerstein was assigned to the detective unit. The department is actively hiring officers; the next Milwaukee Police Academy begins in August and the department noted no additional academies until January. Four West Milwaukee officers were assigned to assist at the Republican National Convention.
Trustee Ragonese asked whether the reporting process could be streamlined so more officers remain on patrol. Chief Randolph said command staff directed officers to alternate reporting times so one officer handles reports while another is on the road. Trustee Greenfield asked what circumstances might warrant traveling the wrong way on a one-way street; Chief Randolph replied that traffic enforcement or emergencies could warrant that practice and confirmed that lights should be used in such situations.
Administrator Egan reported the Village Hall received a call praising Officer Gutierrez and Lieutenant Gallenberger for successfully resuscitating an individual who had overdosed before ambulance arrival; the caller thanked the officers for continuing efforts until the person was resuscitated. The minutes record no formal board action on policing items but reflect personnel changes and staffing priorities.
