Board delays capital‑plan decision, tweaks FY27 water and sewer budgets while awaiting insurance numbers

The Somerset Board of Water & Sewer Commissioners on May 6 reviewed staff updates to the proposed FY27 Water and Sewer budgets and delayed final capital‑plan decisions until the wastewater project phasing and insurance quotes are finalized.
Clerk Robert E. Lima outlined several line‑item adjustments: moving $30,000 from sludge disposal (5294) to electricity (5211), transferring $10,000 from sludge disposal to aggregate material (5531), and reallocating smaller amounts among vehicle repair and chemical budgets in sewer lines. Lima said full‑time wages were verified and blacktop numbers reviewed with no net change; pollution control budget items were reduced where appropriate. The board is still waiting for workers' compensation and vehicle, property and boiler insurance figures for both departments.
Superintendent Christopher Wickman said the board has addressed questions raised by the Board of Selectmen at the April 30 joint meeting. The board agreed to present an updated Capital Plan after the phasing decision on the Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade and once insurance numbers are available for FY27.
