The Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety granted permits and street-closure approvals for several summer community events and fundraising drives during its June 17 meeting.
Karen Brown, representing the Crown Point High School Dance Team Booster, asked to hold three boot drives in July and August; the board approved. Dan Korban asked to hold boot drives for the CPHS Hockey Club in August; the board approved that request as well. Both groups provided location lists to be coordinated with city staff.
Pastor Mark Wilkins of First United Methodist Church requested a temporary closure of South Street between Main and East for the seventh annual VetRock benefit concert on Aug. 28, 2026; Wilkins said the event has raised more than $100,000 for local and disabled-veteran organizations in prior years and that proceeds this year will benefit Operation Charlie Bravo. The board voted to allow the closure and to permit signage; Pastor Wilkins requested a beer tent supplied by Off Square Brewing and said the closure window would be roughly 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
PACE Director Adam Graper asked the board to approve a blanket $3,000 to cover expenses for a free Bulldog Park block party on June 27 and sought approval for up to $13,000 to fund a July 11 employee appreciation event that will open to the public as a free concert; both requests were approved. Graper also asked the board to partner on the Aug. 1 All Class Reunion, which the board approved, and to remove proposed PACE fee changes from the agenda.
Planning Administrator Josh Watson presented an application from Back in Time Donuts and Creamery for three to four metal tables and one A-frame sign in the public right of way at 106 N. Main St.; the board approved the outdoor seating and signage request.
The approvals were routine permits and community-event funding authorizations; city staff will coordinate logistics, signage and traffic access with event organizers.
