Crown Point accepts Motorola quote, holds radio pricing while $1M congressional grant is completed

The Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety on June 17 approved a formal quote from Motorola and a Notice to Proceed that will let the vendor hold equipment pricing while federal grant paperwork is finalized.
Commander Dominic Valsi told the board that work with Congressman Mrvan’s office secured a congressional funding award of $1,000,000 earmarked for new portable and in-car radios. Valsi said the initial offer for all equipment and services "currently totals $993,863.84." He described the vendor's proposed Right of First Offer, under which Motorola will hold radios, peripherals, batteries, chargers, shoulder microphones, in-car radios, antennas and subscription services at the initially offered price for up to seven years; if the funding does not come through the city is not obligated to purchase.
City Attorney Alex Kutanovski said he had reviewed and approved the agreement. The board approved the quote and Notice to Proceed by unanimous voice vote.
The approval allows the city to secure a fixed price while finalizing grant funding and Department of Justice coordination; it does not itself obligate the city to expend funds if federal monies are not received.
