Resident asks commissioners to scrutinize Senica Resources after attorney general filings

John Rosenberger, who said he and his wife have been pursuing a civil case since a July 2022 wastewater line rupture that affected their well, told the Cameron County commissioners that the state attorney general recently filed criminal charges against Senica Resources and urged the board to apply scrutiny to future permits or approvals involving the company.

Rosenberger identified himself to the board and said the attorney general's office filed what he read in the meeting as "64 misdemeanor charges and 36 felony charges" across three incidents, including the incident he described involving a wastewater line rupture that entered the aquifer and contaminated his water well. He told commissioners he and his wife had tried to resolve the matter directly with the company for several months and later cooperated with investigators.

"I respectfully ask of this county commissioner is that if any future, whether it's water withdrawal permits from Senica, whether it's going to build a pad from Senica, that you would not simply rubber stamp it, but ask them for information about it," Rosenberger said. He offered to provide the county with the charging documents and grand jury presentments, noting they are public and unsealed.

The chair asked Rosenberger to share the materials with the county clerk so they can be kept with the meeting records. No formal county action on permits or approvals was taken during the meeting; commissioners accepted the offer of documentation and did not make a decision on future permit screening.
