Resident tells commissioners her home is 'sinking,' blames county review errors

A Cameron County resident who spoke during the public comment period described ongoing drainage and stability problems at her home and accused county staff of failing to follow required protocols.

The resident described a 21-foot slope with an 18-foot drop to her house and said earlier reports omitted the location of a spring. She told commissioners the home has begun to sink and directly blamed county staffer Cliff Clark, saying, "My house is getting destroyed and Cliff Clark is to blame because he did not go to the conservation department." She said she first raised the issue repeatedly over an 18-month period and that promised follow-up had not occurred.

Commissioners acknowledged the resident's frustration on the record and advised her on how to document and file a formal complaint so the county can investigate and assemble a timeline of prior contacts and actions. Meeting participants suggested staff had discussed the matter with the resident and provided contact information for the appropriate conservation and county offices.

The board did not take formal action during the meeting beyond advising the resident to submit the complaint and offering to accept documentation; no engineering or mitigation decision was made at the session.
